Which is better? An In-N-Out Burger or a Five Guys Burger? This past month I was finally able to judge!
Living on the East Coast I have not had the opportunity to try the infamous West Coast In-N-Out Burger. That is, until my recent trip to Las Vegas in which one of my goals was to have my first hamburger from In-N-Out. Celebrities who enjoy In-N-Out Burgers include Penelope Cruz, Kate Beckinsale, Miley Cyrus, Bauer Griffin and Britney Spears. So why not me?
One of the things I love about the In-N-Out Burger concept is the fact that their employees start at a higher than minimum wage income. This makes for better customer service and happier employees. Furthermore, they still have biblical references ?hidden? on wrappers and cups, which I find a refreshing change from what you see in today?s culture. But how is the food?
In-N-Out cuts their potatoes onsite for freshly made french fries. Can you tell the difference from other restaurant fries? Absolutely! They are thin and tasty, getting a big thumbs up from me. Furthermore, I was impressed by the friendliness of the employees. We even had one carry food outside for us for the taxi ride back to the hotel.
Unfortunately, I was disappointed in the actual hamburger I ordered. The vegetables were fresh and wonderful, just as I had heard from others. I especially enjoyed the bun, which was both golden, light and airy. But the burger was thin, dry and incredibly salty. It was as if a McDonald?s burger was dressed for a fancy party ? it was dressed well but tasted like a standard fast food hamburger, double the salt.
How does an In-N-Out Burger compare to a Five Guys Burgers and Fries Burger? I prefer the In-N-Out bun to a Five Guys bun. With that said, if given the choice I would eat a Five Guys hamburger every time.
The actual patty of a Five Guys burger is hand formed and thick. When you bite in to a Five Guys patty you do not taste salt, and the consistency is more tender than an In-N-Out Burger. The overall taste of a Five Guys burger is more homemade while the In-N-Out is more ?fast food. I also appreciate the freshness of the Five Guys toppings, which include more variety than In-N-Out.
When it comes to customer service, I give a thumbs up to both restaurants. I have had wonderful experiences with the Five Guys staff and I thoroughly enjoyed talking to the staff at In-N-Out. Having the In-N-Out employee offer to carry our food made our experience all the more positive.
When I sent a Tweet stating I was about to eat my first In-N-Out Burger I was told I would never be the same again. After my first few bites I was disappointed that the actual burger didn’t match up to the hype. Although the bun and toppings were excellent, the patty was thin, hard and salty. I prefer a Five Guys hamburger to an In-N-Out Burger for both the taste and texture.
Which one do you like better? I know I’m going to take some flack for this review, In-N-Out fans, but I can take it.
